46. The power of social connection to create change with Emeli Paulo

Today I am joined by Emeli Paulo - a five-time social entrepreneur. With two decades of facilitation, she has reached over one million people globally over thousands of workshops and events. She has spent time with Oprah Winfrey and His Holiness Dalai Lama. Emeli is also the Founder of Neuro Care; a Diversity Equity & Inclusion program that teaches emotional agility to VC’s and startups to become aware of, and present with trauma and bias (in the self and others). This unsaid bias, dangerously lowers productivity in product teams & dictates the unsurprising 0.03% funding allocation to WOC start up founders in Australia.

Emeli’s mission is to continue to empower people to speak their truth, build socially inclusive workplaces and connected communities.

How do you want to be remembered? A powerful question that Emeli was asked when she was young, completely changed the trajectory of her life and she realised she could make an impact by connecting others.

We talk about:

  • SoCo - what it is and why it’s so important

  • Mental health and the value of community projects to heal and grow

  • The impact of the pandemic on community and social interaction

  • We all crave belonging and community and how diversity, equality and inclusion plays a part

  • Internalised racism and sexism and the structures of society - micro aggressions and the impact of unconscious racial bias

  • And so much more!
